Adverbials include words that students recognize as adverbs.

Jane sometimes runs 5 miles before she goes to work. 

Sometimes Jane runs five miles before she goes to work. 

adverbs of frequency

always, often, usually, frequently, sometimes, from time to time, infrequently, rarely, seldom, almost never, never 

The placement of adverbs of frequency comes BEFORE the predicate. The exception to this rule comes with the use of BE:

John was always a fast runner.

The children were never misbehaved.

Raul ran slowly down the track.

Slowly, Raul ran down the track. 

-ly adverbs

slowly, happily, sadly, wildly, sweetly, magically,  suddenly, quickly, rapidly, colorfully, truthfully, soundly,  silently, loudly, poorly, badly, softly

well, fast, hard

Adverbials include prepositional phrases.
